Είναι ποτέ δυνατόν να αναλάβουν άτομα παγκόσμιου κύρους, σαν τον Παπαδήμο, να διαχειριστούν τη χώρα εν μέσω τέτοιας αφασίας;

Who wish to return to the Drachma?
Some polls (www.in.gr) in Greece show that 30-35 % prefer to exit the Eurozone.
Who are these people?
1. The usual baseline of nationalist and phobic people that exist in every country; these constantly see conspiracies coming from all sorts of directions. The Jews, the Pope, the West, the East. Any can do as long as adrenalin goes up and fantasy is carried away. This segment is is something like 3-5%.
2. People of essentially a similar psychological background which however have a strong inner drive, although little practical evidence, to believe that they care more about their fellow citizens and society in general. So they feel compelled to fight against capitalism, imperialism and further nonsense. Communists in Greece, although difficult to match in stalinist approaches and mentalities and utter disrespect to the democratic procedures (they always remind us openly that they don't care about constitutions and have their own agenda ending up to the dictatorship of the proletariat...). Rotating around them a number of other leftist groups coming and going now and then. This is a relatively strong segment, maybe 10- 15%.
3. Angered and uninformed people who have the capacity to understand what is at stake here but prefer to vent their anger in any possible way, something they will most certainly repent later. These, in the current circumstances can easily summon up something like 10- 15%.
4. Failed/ corrupt entrepreneurs, a large part of the client system meticulously built by the politicians for 30 years. These see the return to the drachma as an opportunity to remain in the game. Their hope is that things will start again and they hope, this time, to be better positioned. Most of them have already taken their EUROs abroad and will return powerfully back with shiploads of drachmas. Most of these are crippled by a long term sexual relationship with the fat and largely useless Greek public sector and are therefore impotent, incompetent and under-confident for any more natural approach to the issue. They know they will never succeed in doing business in the normal world. Not very big in size, but perhaps the most sinister and powerful of all. 2-3% of rotten businessmen and their puppets here and there
5. Arrogant, corrupt and illiterate trade unionists and their followers, the other side and complement to the Greek client system. All these well understand that their natural position, based on merit, is very very different from their current status and that their privileges are only built on the destruction of the country and the future generations. "Better first among the foxes than last among the lions" as the Chinese proverb, reversely, goes. Thats their motto! This can be up to 20% but it is unlikely that anything above the 3-5% of the leading people here (of the like of Photopoulos, the general, self appointed, manager of the electric company) would go for the drachma. They have children and grand children to think about and some tiny little privileges are worth the sacrifice
All and all the referendum could be very risky indeed, especially as the unbelievable Panandreou decided on this at a moment when segment (3) is growing and can prove decisive.
It seems there will be no referendum. There is also indication that there is some mobility for return to rationalism. Two such initiatives are currently unfolding at http://www.koinonikossyndesmos.org/ (GREEK) and http://www.dimiourgiaxana.gr/ (GREEK)

Mr. Papandreou against the world of rational species
Its more and more difficult to come in terms with our Greek reality.
G. Papandreou ambassador of the problems of Greece and seeking an urgent and huge financing for the Greek debt problem (created by him and his predecessors for 30 years) mobilized all the EU and beyond for a significant period of time in search of this solution. A process that makes the headlines for several months now and which seemed to converge last week to a tedious, early dawn solution. A few days after that G.P raised the referendum issue to the greatest astonishment of the world politicians, the global community, the press and the financial institutions, stock markets included. Rage and laughter has resulted at an unprecedented, massive, scale.
There is no way to debate politically all this. The initiative just-does-not-make-sense for any ordinary person of this world. It just shows infinite disregard for the efforts of so many prestigious leaders of the EU and beyond. It shows zero respect to the money of poor countries like Slovakia who were pressed to support the bailout plan. It exceeds any known level of arrogance and self catastrophic ignorance.
The idea that all this was made in the name of democracy is utterly laughable. Uninformed and angry citizens have no reason to make any right decision. That's not what democracy is about
There is only room to stay speechless, disgraced and wondering if this unending nightmare will ever end.

To Mr. Samaras, candidate for ruling Greece
Mr. Samaras,
- you are aware of the problem with Skopje; they want to build their own myth and you did your best in the 90s to make them as intransigent as they could possibly be; a more wise management would have rather bought them off. You preferred to challenge as if they were the most vicious enemy of Greece. A compromise could have been reached, some north Macedonia or something similar.
"Tell me who you choose as your opponent and I tell you who you are". You chose the Skopjans as your opponent. You can therefore only be an insignificant politician. Like those US conservatives who want to combat socialism and refer to Greece (!) and its abundant communists (!!). But they stay silent about Sweden.
- you are aware of the problem with Greece; your party did its best along with PASOK to ruin the country. Now, however, there are some voices in ruling PASOK calling for rational behavior. Instead, you go around Europe and preach a gospel nobody will understand. Arn' t you fed up to be looked at as a strange being speaking incomprehensible jargon? Is the whole of Europe confused? Why nobody can' t understand you? Why are you the only who has seen the "Truth"?
Mr Samaras, you have seen no truth. You just want to get hold of power; it is so simple. In such a critical moment there are just a handful of patriots in the ruling PASOK. You know this; and you know their names:
Mosialos, Diampantopoulou, Floridis, Loverdos, and a few more.
A great lot in PASOK and, alas!, almost all of your ridiculous stock in your absurd, pseudo- liberal party are selfish idiots, that built a client state to serve their interests and are now siding with every criminal and fascist trade unionist who does not give a damn for public health (see the garbage collection issue) or continuously insists to take action on our behalf (see the idiot / fascist Photopoulos, manager of the electric company) to save us from the EU, and beyond, evil forces that exist in their greedy, or sick, or sick because of greed, minds.
You know Mrs. Delta. Mr. Samaras, or not? Of course you do! Mrs. Delta shot a bullet through her head because she could not watch the Nazis marching in her country.
Is it so difficult for you at this last moment to side with the few patriot forces? Mr. Papandreou will be forgiven for his ugly lies like the famous "There is a lot of money".
You will NOT and NEVER be forgiven!
You will NOT and NEVER be forgiven!
NB: I saw, on the TV, your consultant, Mr. Lazaridis. What a waste, what a pity. I remember Chrissanthos from our young, revolt days, when he was a most inspirational figure of Rigas Ferraios, B' Panelladiki. His texts, those days, where full of passion and radical ideas.
I felt very sad in the first 10 minutes and fell asleep out of boredom.

About my friend Thakis
Thakis is a friend, a skilful engineer and an innovative, investigative and alert and not sleepy academic. I could easily place him among the most exceptional people I' ve ever met. Incidentally, I have great respect for his father, who also followed an exceptional career.
Thakis is a person that in any western society would be considered a unique human asset. In Greece however, he recently told me he is considering immigrating to Australia. It broke my spirit; I reflected on it several times later in the most depressive mood.
All sorts of colourful idiots parade day and night on streets and TV channels, speaking nonsense, breaking our nerves and making our lives miserable. But Thakis, with all these exceptional capacities, recently married with a new born in hands, needs consider immigrating to Australia. This is Greece, in year 2011.
I don't think the country can go much far Thakis. But, as an exception to my style, I' ll issue a small piece of advice, indirectly, via my personal paradigm.
I will go nowhere Thakis! I will stay here to reclaim the country from its occupation army and use any tiny little opportunity to push it out of the irrational spiral it has been pushed into.

Total Eclipse
In Greece, the trust relationship between citizens and government, so fundamental for democracy, is now defunct. The clientelism policies of the last 30 years have alienated the majority of the society and ruined any sense of a common goal. The outrageous, wasteful and eventually catastrophic policies benefited, of course, a significant part of the society. Most of it, however, did not. In either case, there is no trust any more. A vast part of society behaves as if it were under foreign occupation. Resisting in all possible way to pay taxes or yield any territory to the occupation army (the term in fact was first introduced some 10 years ago by EU delegate, G. Marinos). Knowing that any penny paid in, will just sustain hundreds of thousands of useless regime officers and soldiers.
The political system needs to get going. It is incompetent, corrupt and old. New people need to enter the scene, speaking less big words and looking into the tedious day to day tasks rather than adopting absurd and failed ideologies, such as a soviet type socialism under a thin layer of democratic administration that has been the lethal, in Greece, mix. Such people exist. A good example is the current government spokesman, Mr. Mosialos, who left his well paid and cozy London job and came to help his country making clear that this is just a temporary job and not a means to build a shop and get rich. That is the kind of people needed. Having in mind to offer to the country and not to themselves. First condition of course in order to offer is to be of some value; this is where the 90% of the government and 100% of the other major and totally crippled by incompetence, "liberal" Greek party, fully disqualify.
The public sector needs to be slashed, to reach the percentage of other advanced western societies. Starting from the biggest joke ever; the, so called, entrepreneurial public sector! This is far less than useless. This occupies vital space, creates a thick corruption substrate and actively intoxicates any attempt to create wealth, to produce, to develop. No surpise that only the maritime sector, far from its death touch, has escaped this total eclipse and thrives globally.

Unless this project unfolds, unless trust is rebuilt, Greeks reclaim their country and restore confidence to their elected governments, all attempts and bailouts to manage debt and deficits will be futile. And sheer, ridiculous idiots like the self appointed electric company general manager, Mr. trade unionist, Mr. Photopoulos, will pop up as saviours on our behalf, a bleak reminder of the, similarly proactive, junta idiots, 45 years ago.
